Farfus tops Friday test session
Augusto Farfus has topped the times at the Friday test session ahead of this weekend’s round of the WTCC from Monza.
Farfus set a 2:01.491 to lead the times in his BMW 320si, leading a top three made up of all the top teams – with Yvan Muller’s Chevrolet Cruze second, and the leading SR-Sport SEAT León TDI of Tom Coronel in third.
Farfus’s RBM team mate Andy Priaulx suffered a brake disk failure at the end of the main straight, and managed to cut the chicane to avoid Alain Menu’s Chevrolet.
Other drivers to suffer a curtailed session due to technical issues include SUNRED Engineering’s Fredy Barth, who was the top scoring rookie last time out at Marrakech – as well as Sergio Hernandez & Mehdi Bennani.
Of the new drivers for the weekend, European Touring Car Cup racer and local Fabio Fabiani was 19th fastest in his Proteam run BMW; whilst Leonel Pernía, in his first run in the Cruze, and at Monza and in a S2000 car was 13th in the Chevrolet Cruze – slotting in just between the independent Chevrolet Lacetti’s of Darryl O’Young & Harry Vaulkhard.
