Tiago Monteiro returns with SUNRED

Tiago Monteiro has signed to race for SUNRED Engineering again to start his fifth season in the World Touring Car Championship this year.

Monteiro, who joined the championship with the works SEAT squad in 2007 will race for the second year with SUNRED, and becomes the fifth driver committed to race a SEAT León full time this year.

“I am happy that SEAT and our partners have put their trust on me and I am delighted to race one more year in a championship which is, by all means, one of the very best in the world,” said Monteiro.

“2011 will be an extension of 2010, with the same technical structure and the same conditions. I want to profit from the experience I have acquired over the past few years and translate that into my best raw results.”

Monteiro won two races in 2010 in the SUNRED run SEAT, finishing fifth in the championship in the non-manufacturer run team. The team will again start with the 2.0 diesel engine before switching to a 1.6 turbo unit along with rivals BMW and Chevrolet as soon as the engine is ready.

Monteiro was also confirmed earlier this week to be taking part in the Le Mans 24 Hour race with Signatech in a Nissan powered Oreca on June 11th-12th.
