Mehdi Bennani joins Proteam Motorsport

Mehdi Bennani has been confirmed to drive for Proteam in the WTCC 2011 after one year with Wiechers Sport. The Moroccan is going to drive the new BMW 320TC alongside a yet to be announced team mate.
“Choosing a young – and yet experienced driver – such as Bennani is completely satisfying for us,” said Proteam team owner Valmiro Presenzini to TouringCarTimes.

“It makes perfect sense, because during the past two years he proved he has got a lot of talent. The new rules will be a great challenge and we have high goals for this year; that is why a driver like Mehdi was needed,” said Presenzini.

Presenzini added that the team can’t wait for the season to begin:
“We are ready to take this new challenge with a lot of enthusiasm. We have taken part in every single race in the World Touring Car Championship’s history and we’re an established team. After a fantastic season in 2010, we’re more motivated than ever to face this important challenge and get good results. It won’t be easy, as the opposition is very strong, but that’s where we’re aiming at.”

Proteam’s third driver is due to be announced very shortly. Fabio Fabiani was recently announced to take part for the team in the older BMW 320si.
