Martin Tomczyk tops first Hockenheim test

Newly crowned DTM champion Martin Tomczyk topped the first test session of the final weekend at Hockenheim. The Audi driver lapped the track in 1:33.621, close to two tenths faster than top Mercedes driver Maro Engel in second.

Christian Vietoris made it two Mercedes in the top three, ahead of Mike Rockenfeller in fourth and Renger van der Zande in fifth.

Mattias Ekström, who is up against Bruno Spengler for the runner-up position in the championship, was sixth fastest, 0.468 seconds behind Tomczyk.

Timo Scheider, Filipe Albuquerque, Susie Wolff and David Coulthard rounded off the top ten. Bruno Spengler only managed 12th fastest time, 0.932 seconds slower than Tomczyk.
