Volkswagen: “Sophistry decided the STCC final”

Volkswagen were left upset as the Swedish Automobile Sports Federation decided to reject the appeal over the result of the final STCC race at Mantorp Park.
“We have got the matter investigated, which was the main thing, and we can establish that our appeal did not fall on that we were wrong, but on legal sophistry,” said Tommy Kristoffersson, Team Principal of Volkswagen Team Biogas.se.

The appeal was rejected as the Volkswagen team did not hand in a written form confirming the appeal 60 minutes after their initial protest was thrown out, which was that champion Rickard Rydell had overtaken under yellow flags.
“We are amazed, to put it mildly. Everyone who saw the SVT Sport coverage yesterday could see that there is no doubt about the fact that Rydell overtook under yellow flags. The Disciplinary Committee had more than a month to handle the question and they are now choosing to refer to a legal detail, that we during the final were not enlightened on when we were in contact with the race directors,” said Kristoffersson.

Volkswagen has got one week to appeal this latest decision to the Swedish Automobile Sports Federation.
“We are going to think about on how to go on. There has been some talk about that we are sore losers to even have appealed at all. But I want to say on that matter that I don’t think any other team would have acted differently. It is a title on the line and that it should be decided through a clear violation does not feel especially encouraging,” said Kristoffersson.
