Samson Fung takes win in the CTM Macau Cup

Hong Kong driver Samson Fung won the 2011 CTM Macau Touring Car Cup ahead of China Dragon Racing team-mate Paul Poon, whilst Macanese polesitter Leong Ian Veng finished in third place.

At the start, Henry Ho suffered with mechanical issues during the formation lap in his BMW 320si and returned to the pits before the race started to retire.

The Chevrolet Lacetti of Paul Poon and Andy Yan in his Honda Integra DC5 passed pole-sitter Leong on the run down to Lisboa at the start. It wasn’t long before the safety car was deplyed after the retirement of Cheang Kwok Han (Five Auto Honda Accord), Lo Hung Pui (778 Autosport Honda Civic FD2), Andy Yan (Honda Integra DC5) and Chan Wing Shiu (Team IMSP Honda Integra DC5) on the first lap.

The race restarted after a four lap safety car period, with Samson Fung passing Leong’s Accord, with RPM Macau Honda driver Lei Kit Ming moving up to fourth place. Leong re-passed Fung for second into Lisboa and Law Wai Lung moved ahead of Lei for fourth place.

Leong, now clear of Fung, closed ino on race leader Poon, making contact as they headed into Lisboa on lap eight, which gave Leong the lead but clearly struggling with damage. Poon was stopped at Lisboa briefly after the collision, which allowed team-mate Samson Fung through into second.

Fung then closed on the ailing Honda Accord of Leong, taking the lead whilst Poon was also now closing in on Leong’s Honda.

On lap 9, Son Veng Racing driver Jeromino Badaraco crashed into the barrier in his Honda Integra at Lisboa corner, with a large pile-up of cars bringing out the red flag.

When the race was finally restarted, Leong was passed almost instantly by Poon, Lei and Law, with Law then moving up to third.

On the final lap, a clash between 778 Autosport driver Lo Ka Fai and Law Wai Lung saw Leong Ian Veng promoted back into third place, with Lei Kit Ming taking fourth in his Honda Accord and a damaged Civic FD2 of Law crossing the line in fifth.

Fung took the chequered flag at the end of 12 laps to win the race with team-mate Paul Poon in second, securing the best possible result for the HTCC team.
