24-year-old Spaniard Javier Villa will again race with Proteam in this year’s World Touring Car Championship, with Proteam effectively entering an unchanged driver line-up for 2012.
The former GP2 driver, who finished fifth in the independents’ classification last year in his first season in the WTCC, will drive in one of the team’s two BMW 320 TCs, with Moroccan-driver Mehdi Bennani again as his team-mate.
The team ran three cars last season, but as the third car was still running with a two-litre normally aspirated engine, it’s not eligible for a full season entry in 2012. The team are instead looking to enter that car in the European Touring Car Cup.
“We are happy to announce after the negotiations in recent months, that Proteam confirm that Javier Villa will be with the team this year,” said a team spokesman .
Villa is the second Spanish racer confirmed for 2012 after Pepe Oriola was already announced at SUNRED Engineering.
