Frank Wrathall awarded the best BTCC rookie of 2011

Frank Wrathall was voted by TouringCarTimes readers as the best rookie driver in the 2011 British Touring Car Championship, with the clearest winning margin of any of the 2011 polls.

The 2010 Ginetta G50 Cup champion picked up 55.5% of the vote to be the outright winner. Wrathall struggled early in the year in the brand new Dynojet Racing Toyota Avensis, which was untested ahead of the season opener at Brands Hatch.

In the second half of the season, the 25-year-old bounced back after several improvements during the summer break, taking three wins in the independents’ category as well as four overall podium results.

Rob Austin was voted in second place in the Audi with 16.5% of the vote, and West Surrey Racing’s Nick Foster was third, just 0.1% ahead of Dave Newsham.

Porsche Carrera Cup GB regular Michael Caine, who drove for Motorbase Performance for two meetings late in the season scoring points on his debut, rounded out the top five.
