Bruno Spengler headed Augusto Farfus Jr. to claim BMW’s first DTM pole position since 1992. The Canadian lapped Lausitzring in 1:18.777, beating Farfus with just 0.038 seconds.
Championship leader Gary Paffett was best Mercedes driver in fourth while Mike Rockenfeller as best Audi driver in fourth and final man in to the Q4.
Edoardo Mortara is going to start fifth for Audi Team Rosberg, ahead of Jamie Green and reigning champion Martin Tomczyk.
Mattias Ekström, who claimed pole position for the Hockenheim season opener, will line up eighth ahead of Miguel Molina and Adrien Tambay.
Top drivers who failed to make it to the top ten included Timo Scheider in 12th and Andy Priaulx in 13th.
