Engström and Nykjaer on pole at Sturup

Tomas Engström, Honda, and Michel Nykjaer, Chevrolet, claimed one pole position each for the STCC weekend at Sturup. Tomas Engström claimed pole position in the Q1 session, 0.154 seconds ahead of Nykjaer and 0.206 seconds ahead of top Volkswagen driver in the form of Johan Stureson.

Championship leader Johan Kristoffersson claimed fourth on the grid for race one, over half a second from Engström’s time. Patrik Olsson and Jordi Gené completed a four-car Volkswagen train, occupying positions three to six.

Reigning champion Rickard Rydell only managed seventh best time in the Q1 session, over a second from the pole time, with Niclas Olsson, Robin Appelqvist and Andreas Ahlberg rounding off the top ten behind him.

The second qualifying session saw Nykjaer beating championship leader Kristoffersson with just over three tenths. Q1 pole-man Tomas Engström was third fastest ahead of Johan Stureson and Rickard Rydell. Patrik Olsson and Jordi Gené were the final drivers in to the top eight of Q2.

Times from the Q2 session decides the grid of race two for the top eight drivers, with the order behind them being the same as in Q1 which decides the grid for race one.
