Michel Nykjaer takes third win of 2012 at Mantorp Park
Chevrolet Motorsport Sweden driver Michel Nykjaer led from start to finish to take his third win of the 2012 Scandinavian Touring Car Championship season, finishing ahead of Tomas Engström who moved up from fifth in the Honda Civic.
Nykjaer had qualified on pole position in the Chevrolet Cruze 1.6T with team-mate Rickard Rydell starting alongside, and kept the lead at the start with Rydell following.
Tomas Engström had a great start, moving from fifth to third at the end of the first lap, and was able to make a clean pass on Rydell for second on lap two but was unable to close up on race leader Nykjaer who went on to take his third win of the year and closes to 27 points of points leader Johan Kristoffersson in the drivers’ championship.
Rickard Rydell finished third ahead of Kristoffersson and so closes back to within nine points on the 23-year-old at the half way mark of the Championship.
Niclas Olsson took the win in the Semcon Cup with tenth place in the NP Racing SEAT León, just behind the two turbocharged SEAT Team Sweden Leóns of Santosh Berggren and Robin Appelqvist.
The next round of the Championship is the Östersund Airport Race on 11th August.
