Liuzzi leads as Superstars visits Spa
The Superstars Series heads to Spa-Francorchamps for the sixth event of the championship this year. After a super weekend in Hungary Vitantonio Liuzzi is leading the standings for the first time this year, six points ahead of Thomas Biagi and two more ahead of former leader Johan Kristoffersson.
The fast Belgian track is expected to play in favour of the Mercedes, who will also field Luigi Ferrara alongside Liuzzi at CAAL Racing. A regular competitor in the past few seasons, Ferrara is expected to be a front runner this weekend.
Team BMW Dinamic is going to field three cars, with British Touring Car Championship regular Jeff Smith making his debut in the series alongside 2010 champion Thomas Biagi and Stefano Gabellini.
The Audis, which will be penalized by the compensation decisions which included an air restrictor on their engines, could make up for the disadvantage in the event of rain, courtesy of their four wheel drive which would favour Johan Kristoffersson, Gianni Morbidelli and Thomas Schöffler.
Mika Salo will make his return in the Superstars Series after a positive debut in Monza in his Maserati Quattroporte, while on the Mercedes side Roma Racing Team will field two cars, with team manager Nico Caldarola driving one of the C63 AMGs and the other one driven alternatively by Alessandro Garofano and Luca Rangoni.
The races will be held on Sunday at 11.15 and 16.15.
