Gianni Morbidelli takes damp Spa pole position

Gianni Morbidelli took pole position for the first Superstars Series race at Spa-Francorchamps. The Italian will share the front row with his team-mate Johan Kristoffersson, making it an all-Audi front row.

The session was held on a damp track but, as the session went along, everyone moved on to the slick tyres.

The gap between the two Audis and Vitantonio Liuzzi, who clocked the third fastest laptime, is massive, with the championship leader being some 1.7 seconds shy of Morbidelli’s time.

Superstars returnees Luigi Ferrara and Mika Salo will start behind Liuzzi, with Camilo Zurcher completing the third row.

The BMWs appeared to be off the pace, with Thomas Biagi and Stefano Gabellini occupying the fourth row in their M3s with a gap of 2.7 seconds and 3 seconds respectively.

Andrea Larini and Thomas Schoeffler rounded off the top ten. Jeff Smith was not able to go further than fourteenth, whereas Max Pigoli will start 18th in his Jaguar XF/R after only completing two laps. Rangoni and Garofano had their times disallowed.

The first race will start at 11.15 CET.
