Tomas Engström left it to the final moment to snatch pole position for Honda at Östersund for race one tomorrow from Volkswagen’s Johan Kristoffersson.
The 38-year-old Swede managed to find an extra two-tenths of a second over Kristoffersson in the Team Biogas.se Volkswagen Scirocco to claim pole for race one, which uses the times from the first part of qualifying to set the grid.
The pole position spot changed ten times during the 20 minute session, with Engström and Kristoffersson duking it out throughout the final 10 minutes.
Rickard Rydell qualified in third place in his Chevrolet Cruze to put three different manufacturers in the top three spots.
Patrik Olsson, fastest in testing in the IPS Team Biogas Volkswagen was fourth fastest ahead of team-mate Johan Stureson, with Michel Nykjaer sixth in the other Chevrolet.
Niclas Olsson claimed the class pole in the Semcon Cup for independents with ninth. The top ten will now go into Q2 and battle for the race two grid.
