Ten from ten for Jens Weimann at the Red Bull Ring
Jens Weimann won Rounds 9 and 10 of the 2012 ADAC Procar Series at the Red Bull Ring, and is on target to wrap up the title at the next round at the Lausitzring in two weeks time.
Thate Motorsport’s Jens Weimann started the first race from pole position ahead of Paul Green in the Liqui Moly Team Engstler BMW, the only other S2000 car in the field. Weimann soon found himself on his own though as Green had to pit to repair a gear-shift problem, which dropped him to ninth overall behind seven of the S1600 class cars.
In race two, Green worked his way up past the S1600 cars to chase Weimann to the finish, crossing the line just three seconds adrift, but couldn’t stop Weimann taking his tenth win from ten races.
Weimann now leads the standings on 100 points to Paul Green on 63. Weimann can mathematically secure the title at the next round of the series at the Lausitzring on August 26th.
In S1600, Nils Mierschke was unable to convert his second pole of the year into a race win, with Guido Thierfelder winning both races in his ETH Tuning Peugeot 207. Thierfelder has now won nine out of ten races in the S1600 class, and maintains a 29 point lead over Mierschke, with 60 points available from the final three race meetings.
With S2000 and S1600 cars counted, just 11 cars were entered this weekend, with only nine making the start of the second race with Yury Krauchuk in the Ravenol Team Ford Fiesta and Wilson Borgnino on the Maurer Motorsport Chevrolet Aveo unable to take part.
