Gary Paffett remains on top of the DTM 2012 championship despite a tough weekend at Nürburgring where he only managed 11th in qualifying.
“A good grid position is really important at this track as it’s tough to overtake around here so we knew it would be a tough weekend after qualifying in P11,” said Paffett.
The Mercedes driver made the most of the start and was able to climb four positions in the first laps, a position he improved by one to finish sixth in the end.
“I was happy with my opening lap and to come away with sixth place isn’t too bad considering where we started and the issue we had at the second pitstop,” said Paffett.
Paffett had a hard fight with Rockenfeller for fifth, but the fight ended in the final pitstop where the team had problems with the right rear tyre.
Next up is Zandvoort for Paffett and the rest of the DTM field where the Mercedes driver hopes to be back in the top.
“We managed to solve many of the issues we had in qualifying and had great pace throughout the race. Although it’s disappointing not to have been in a position to challenge for a race win we head to Zandvoort leading the championship by twenty points where will be intending to challenge for wins once again,” said Paffett.
