Long way to go still for STCC and TTA in negotiations

The Swedish Automobile Sports Federation (SBF) started negotiations between STCC and TTA earlier in this week in an attempt to get the two championships together for 2013.
“The tone is different now. There is much to win if there are ways to find a cooperation between them,” said Kåge Schildt, Federal Chariman of SBF.

While there has been a meeting, both parties mean that there is a long way to go still to find a possible cooperation.
“We never wanted two championships, but that is what we have got and there needs to be a lot done in order to find a solution. We are four teams that have spent millions on creating a championship and we can’t just give that away. It would be best if things work out, but I want to be a realist. In the end this is about business and who is going to pay for it. It can seem easy before you get there,” said Jan “Flash” Nilsson, TTA representative to NWT.

If the two championships were to be joined, the question remains on how to solve the main class. The S2000 cars of STCC or the TTA cars?
“The cars are no problem for us, it is just like before up to the teams and the car industry. They [TTA] have invested a lot in their cars and they can of course not just throw that in the bin,” said Bob Huzell, Managing Director of STCC.

One of the main teams of the STCC, Volkswagen team Kristoffersson Motorsport, have considered the TTA regulations.
“We would like to compete with Volvo and BMW. But it does not matter what I think, I need to get Volkswagen onboard. But I think the main key is to get the manufacturers, that is where the money is, and that we as competitors agree on which regulations to use. The main fight isn’t STCC versus TTA, but Swedish motorsport against other sports. If we fight internally, we risk losing that match,” said Tommy Kristoffersson, Team Manager of Kristoffersson Motorsport.
