Kristoffersson penalised – Olsson inherits first victory

Johan Kristoffersson has been penalised and stripped of the race two victory of the STCC weekend at Jyllandsringen. The Volkswagen driver was given a three second penalty for not performing the start correctly, moving him down third and handing the victory to fellow Volkswagen driver Patrik Olsson, his first ever STCC victory.

“I thought there was going to be another formation lap as the safety car didn’t turn off the lights on the roof or head in to the pits. That is why I got behind, but I still managed to outbrake Gené into the first corner and claim the lead of the race,” said Kristoffersson.

The stewards issued a drive through penalty at first during the race for Kristoffersson, a penalty which was retracted and replaced by a three second penalty after the race. The Volkswagen team filed a protest against the decision but were turned down.
“The action of the safety car in connection to the start was the opposite of what the rules say. Johan was tricked and was warming tyres when lights went to green,” said Volkswagen Team Manager Tommy Kristoffersson.

The penalty reduces Kristoffersson’s gap from 18 points to eight to main rival Rickard Rydell with two races left of the season.
