Michel Nykjaer takes race one pole at Knutstorp
Michel Nykjaer has claimed pole position for the first race at Knutstorp in his Chevrolet Motorsport Sweden Cruze. Championship leader Johan Kristoffersson qualifies in second place in the top Volkswagen Scirocco.
Nykjaer dominated the 20 minute session, first setting the benchmark of 1:00.910, later improving to 1:00.539 to secure the pole as Johan Kristoffersson continued to nudge closer in the Team Biogas.se VW Scirocco.
Rickard Rydell put in a last minute flyer to jump into third in the second of the two Cruzes.
Patrik Olsson qualified fourth in the IPS Team Biogas VW Scirocco with Jordi Gené fifth. Santosh Berggren was the fastest SEAT in seventh, whilst Niclas Olsson claimed the Semcon Cup for privateers class pole position with the ninth fastest overall time.
Tomas Engström is still waiting for a replacement engine from the UK and missed qualifying and will have to start from the back of the grid tomorrow, as will Tony Johansson’s G-Rex Mercedes, which missed qualifying after stopping in Free Practice.
Q2 follows and will set the top eight for the grid for race two, with positions ninth onwards already in place.
