Kristoffersson aiming for double victory at Solvalla
Johan Kristoffersson has been in the lead of the STCC drivers championship for the majority of the season. But the Volkswagen driver lost the lead in the penultimate race of the season and is 20 points behind reigning champion Rickard Rydell ahead of this weekend’s finale at Solvalla.
“I am going to Stockholm with high goals. It would of course have been better to head to the final in the championship lead. But it is not an unlikely scenario that I am going to win both races,” said Kristoffersson.
If Kristoffersson wins both races, Rydell could still be champion if he finishes second and third.
“The situation is tough and we might need something extraordinary to reach all the way. But most things tend to happen in STCC finales and we are going to fight for the very last millimeter to reach our goal,” said Team Manager Tommy Kristoffersson.
Kristoffersson has got three Volkswagen drivers in the form of Jordi Gené, Patrik Olsson and Johan Stureson to his help in the final. Rydell has got team mate Michel Nykjaer to his help, but with the Dane being second in the championship, only nine points behind Rydell, we are facing a three-way battle for the title.
