STCC plans rallycross as new class for 2013

The STCC organisation is planning to introduce rallycross as a class to the existing championship for next year. The planned class has been named “Rallycross Supercars” with cars from the Division 1 rallycross regulations.

“This would be a real boost for the rallycross. With STCC as platform, the rallycross would be able to develop and get spectators like never before. To coordinate rallycross events with STCC’s racing would give the spectators something new and excting where both racing and rallycross could be winners,” said Tommy Kristoffersson, Team Biogas.se team owner and former rallycross driver.

STCC’s ambition is to run the new rallycross series as the official Swedish championship with a finale at the new Tele2 Arena in Stockholm. The proposition has been received well with the Swedish Automobile Sports Federation, SBF.

“We are already set on that SBF with Stockholm Globe Arenas AB is going to host a grand finale with, among others, the Supercars in the new Tele2 Arena on the 21-24th of November in 2013. That is why we are positive on the suggestions that STCC has presented on a new Swedish championship with finale on the new arena and we are together discussing on how to further develop the rallycross in Sweden,” said Thomas Jansson, Federal Director of SBF.

Alongside the main rallycross class, STCC is also planning to introduce a “Supercars Light” with a new one-spec car produced by the Swedish rallycross team MSE with a naturally aspirated engine of 300 bhp, produced by Olsbergs.

The main class “Rallycross Supercars” features Division 1 cars with engines that produces 550 bhp.
