Mike Rockenfeller finished the morning warm up session in first place. The Phoenix Audi driver jumped to the top towards the end of the session, demoting Audi Team Rosberg’s Edoardo Mortara to second.
Andy Priaulx and Joey Hand for BMW Teams RBM and RMG respectively finished third and fourth, spoiling Audi’s dominance, lapping three tenths slower than the leader.
Adrien Tambay was fifth fastest for Audi Sport Team Abt ahead of a very close pack led by team-mate Mattias Ekström.
BMW Team Schnitzer’s Dirk Werner and Phoenix Audi’s Miguel Molina were seventh and eighth respectively ahead of the Rosberg Audi A5 of Filipe Albuquerque and Martin Tomczyk’s BMW Team RMG M3, who rounded out the top ten.
Pole-sitting Augusto Farfus in the RBM BMW M3 was eleventh, seven tenths slower than Rockenfeller, while the championship contenders had another tough session.
BMW Team Schnitzer’s Bruno Spengler was the highest placed of the pack in fourteenth, while HWA Mercedes’ Jamie Green was the second of the Mercedes pack down in sixteenth. Gary Paffett came home twentieth, 1.6 seconds shy of the leader.
All the eight Mercedes drivers closed the standings, with Roberto Merhi in fifteenth leading the pack.
