BMW drivers Stefano D’Aste and Norbert Michelisz topped the morning warm up at Suzuka. D’Aste was fastest with 53.926, just 0.018 seconds ahead of Michelisz.
Alex MacDowall was top Chevrolet driver ahead of championship leader Yvan Muller in third and fourth.
Tom Coronel was fifth fastest ahead of Pepe Oriola. Chevrolet duo Rob Huff and Alain Menu claimed positions seven and eight, with Aleksei Dudukalo and Gabriele Tarquini rounding off the top ten.
Three drivers have changed their engines ahead of the race with Tom Chilton, James Nash and Masaki Kano having to start from the back of the grid due to that.
