Gianni Morbidelli has decided to race today at Pergusa after all in the final round of the 2012 Superstars International Series. The Italian took to Twitter yesterday venting his frustration over the performance of his Audi RS5, stating he was to leave early.
The 2009 Superstars International Series champion will start from 16th and last for the first race, with fellow Audi driver Johan Kristoffersson in 14th place.
Morbidelli’s best time of the weekend is just under seven seconds off the ultimate time, set by Raffaelo Giammaria in qualifying in the Romeo Ferraris Mercedes AMG63.
The Italian broke the shock absorbers on his Audi Sport Italia RS5 in both FP1 and qualifying, running over the kerbs at the Pergusa circuit.
“Yes, I will race because we must be professional until the end,” said Morbidelli to AUTOSPORT.
“But I can’t be happy about it. We have been too penalised, with the weight and the restrictor.”
“The problem is not that we have lost our advantage, it’s that we look ridiculous, because we have lost five seconds. Every time I try and take a kerb, I break a damper. It’s ridiculous. Even if you are blind you can see that this is ridiculous.”
