Yvan Muller leads Chevrolet lock-out in FP2

Yvan Muller was fastest again, breaking the lap record in the second free practice session at Monza, over seven-tenths of a second faster than the bamboo-engineering Chevrolet of Alex MacDowall, as all five Chevrolets entered in the event took the top five positions.

Yvan Muller’s time of 1:57.504 smashed the qualifying lap record set by Gabriele Tarquini last year, then in the SEAT.

Third fastest was Muller’s RML team-mate Tom Chilton, just under a second down on Muller’s time, with James Nash fourth for bamboo-engineering and Michel Nykjaer fifth for Nika Racing.

The fastest non-Chevrolet was the Honda of Gabriele Tarquini in sixth, 1.3 seconds off of Muller’s time with Rob Huff the fastest of the SEATs in seventh position in the Münnich Motorsport-run car.

James Thompson was impressive again in the LADA Sport Lukoil Granta, finishing eighth fastest, just ahead of Fernando Monje in the Campos Racing SEAT León who had limited running in FP1.

All cars took part in the session, with Charles Ng joining in late after his damage was repaired from his FP1 incident at Della Roggia.

The session was relatively incident free, with Darryl O’Young spinning at the Rettifilio and a mistake for reigning GT1 champion Marc Basseng’s Münnich SEAT at the Della Roggia.

Many cars were rehearsing their slipstreaming runs down the fast straights at Monza for the qualifying session, which takes place at 15:00 CET.
