Scott Pye set to miss Pukekohe after huge Symmons crash

Scott Pye is going to miss the coming V8 Supercars race at Pukekohe Park, New Zealand, following his huge crash at Symmons Plains last weekend.
“New Zealand is definitely out of the question but touch wood we’ll have it back for Perth,” said Lucas Dumbrell, team owner of Lucas Dumbrell Motorsport to Speedcafe.com.

“The biggest thing at the moment that we’re focussed on is getting it back on the jig because it’s structurally pretty messed up. A big hit like that puts such a shockwave of force through the chassis that I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s stuff that’s damaged at the back of it,” said Dumbrell.

The Holden driver went off track at close to 160 km/h as the brakes failed and was lucky to escape with only minor injuries.
“It was one of those crashes that you see form a long way away and there was nothing I could do. Instinctively though I kept trying to turn the car and brake it, even though the pedal was going to the floor. It’s a freak accident, it’s one of those things. I don’t know what you could do about it. I’m fine so I’m not complaining about anything,” said Pye.

The crash means that the team will only field one car at Pukekohe Park for Dean Fiore as no spare cars are available yet.
“I don’t think anyone has a spare chassis up and running yet, and it’s not like we can go and get a VE from the Development Series or anything like that because of the Car of the Future. It’s a shame but it looks like we’ll only have one car in New Zealand,” said Dumbrell.
