Honda and Chevrolet on maximum weight in Austria
The Honda will join Chevrolet at the maximum possible compensation ballast of +40kg at the Salzburgring after the FIA’s latest calculations, taking into account the performances of the two models in Marrakech, Slovakia and Hungary.
The Honda of Gabriele Tarquini took pole position at two of the last three rounds, with Yvan Muller taking pole position last time out at Hungary just ahead of the three Hondas.
The performance of the top two drivers in each marque in qualifying and both races is used to calculate the compensation weight.
With two wins for SEAT in the last three rounds, and Rob Huff setting the fastest lap in the second race on his way to victory in Hungary, the SEATs will get a 10kg weight increase since the last round as well, and will be up to +20kg of ballast.
The BMWs, whose performance has been transformed since Slovakia, with Tom Coronel’s victory in the second race at the Bratislava circuit and Mehdi Bennani’s second place in Hungary, will lose some of their advantage with an increase back to base weight just as they started the season in Austria.
The Lada Granta WTCCs of James Thompson and Mikhail Kozlovskiy will remain at the minimum weight in Austria at -20kg.
