Testing cancelled at Solvalla due to asphalt damage [updated]

The second test session of the STCC weekend at Solvalla in Stockholm has been cancelled due to asphalt damage.
“Repairs will be done over night and we plan to run according to schedule tomorrow. Possible changes will be announced as soon as possible,” said Joakim Tärnström, Press Manager of STCC, to TouringCarTimes.

High temperatures and newly laid asphalt is reckoned to be the reason for the damage. With cooler temperatures forecasted for tomorrow, the STCC organisation expects the repaired asphalt to hold better.
“We are going to build on the most vulnerable places on the track with a new layer of asphalt. We have done extensive calculation on the stresses the circuit is exposed to, but asphalt is a living material and in this case we have to rethink,” said Patrik Karlsson, Construction Manager of PEAB Asphalt.

The first test session was completed before the track organisers decided to halt further track activities, where Volvo Polestar Racing driver Thed Björk was fastest ahead of BMW Dealer Team driver Fredrik Larsson.
