Andy Yan leads Ford 1-2-3-4 in qualifying at Tianma
Chang’an Ford FRD Team driver Andy Yan led a dominant performance by the Ford team at the Tianma circuit for the third round of the 2013 China Touring Car Championship, with team-mates Rainey He, Jiang Tengyi and Martin Xie qualifying in second to fourth positions.
The qualifying session was divided into two parts due to the small size of the circuit. Andy Yan dominated the first session with a time of 1:07.530 in his Chang’an Ford Team’s Focus. Jiang Tengyi and Martin Xie advanced in the later part of the session, pushing back the three Volkswagen Polos from Shanghai VW 333 Racing Team to the lower positions.
Ford’s Rainey He led the second session with a time of 1:07.897 under wet conditions, pushing Jiang and Xie to third and fourth places overall.
G Racing’s Kenneth Look, driving an upgraded Chevrolet Cruze 1.6T, was ranked seventh overall, just ahead of Huang Chu Han, the highest placed Kia driver in this session.
Li Zhi Cong of DHRT (Dong Feng Honda Racing Team) and ASR da Marco’s Huang Zhi Zhan were absented from the qualifying session due to mechanical problems which occurred during free practice.
The CTCC Super Production race will be held at 14:00 on Sunday.
