Björk beats Larsson to pole in dramatic Solvalla qualifying

Thed Björk and Fredrik Larsson were entangled in a dramatic fight for pole position at Solvalla. The two beat each others times all the way to the final lap of the session when the Volvo driver managed to beat BMW driver Larsson with 0.030 seconds.
“I am very happy. My lap was just perfect and the fight with Fredrik was great,” said Björk.

Volvo and BMW occupied the top six positions with Linus Ohlsson claiming his best so far start position for Volvo in third, beating his team mate Robert Dahlgren with four hundredths of a second.

Robin Rudholm was the final driver in to the Q3 session, being six tenths from pole position in the end. Reigning TTA champion and Volvo Polestar Racing driver Fredrik Ekblom was 0.082 seconds from making it to Q3 but had to settle with sixth on the grid ahead of best Volvo/BMW driver Jocke Mangs in seventh for Brovallen Design.

There was drama for BMW Dealer Team driver and championship leader Richard Göransson who stopped on track on the first lap of Q2 due to a broken suspension. Göransson is going to start 10th behind Tomas Engström, completing his best qualifying result so far in the new STCC cars, in eight and Saab driver Daniel Haglöf in ninth.

The race starts at 15.15 CET.
