Comfortable win for Johannes Leidinger at a wet Sachsenring

Johannes Leidinger took his second win of the 2013 ADAC Procar Series season at the Sachsenring, finishing ahead of title rival Jens Weimann and closed the gap in the standings to just two points ahead of the day’s second race.

The race began behind the safety car due to the wet conditions, with Liqui Moly Team Engstler driver Leidinger making the most of his pole position and building a steady lead ahead of Thate Motorsport’s Jens Weimann throughout the race.

RSK-Motorsport’s Ardi van der Hoek held on to third place throughout the race whilst Markus Huggler was promoted to fourth before the race started, with Guido Naumann forced to start from the pits one lap down due to technical problem with his Engstler BMW 320si.

In Division 2, Austrian driver David Griessner led from the class pole in his Peugeot 207 Sport, whilst an error for Ralf Glatzel in the Glatzel Racing Ford Fiesta on lap seven saw him run off wide in the slippery conditions and lose second place and sixth overall to Belarussian team-mate Yury Krauchuk.

Glatzel’s lead in the S1600 class is therefore reduced from eight to four points with Griessner’s win in the class and Glatzel only picking up six points for third.

With seven minutes to go, Olaf Müller spun his Lafia Racing Citroën C2 out at Turn 6 which saw the yellow flags out as the bright orange car was pulled out of the gravel, and then was able to rejoin.

Guido Naumann’s BMW eventually crawled to a stop at the entrance to the pits on lap 11, whilst Julia Trampert made a mistake on the following lap whilst trying to pass Andreas Rinke’s Citroën Saxo VTR for 11th, driving through the gravel at Turn 1 and falling behind Liqui Moly Team Engstler Ford team-mate Thomas Krebs.

Leidinger’s win in Division 1 means that Jens Weimann now leads the drivers’ standings by just two points, with Weimann on 38 points and Leidinger on 36.

The second race of the day is due to take place at 14:30 CET, with the grid as the result of race one with Leidinger again starting from pole position.
