Jens Weimann wins aborted second race at the Sachsenring
Thate Motorsport’s Jens Weimann won the second race of the ADAC Procar Series at the Sachsenring and extends his points lead to 12 points over Engstler Motorsport’s Johannes Leidinger.
Leidinger and RSK-Motorsport’s Ardi van der Hoek were both out at the start with mechanical issues which gave Weimann the lead of the race ahead of the BMW 320i of Markus Huggler, as the safety car was called out for the first two laps of the race.
When the race was restarted, the third remaining Super 2000 car, the Engstler BMW of Guido Naumann, continued to work his way through the order from last on the grid, passing the leading battle in Super 1600 between ETH Tuning’s David Griessner and Glatzel Racing’s Ralf Glatzel for third position.
Reigning champion Weimann was able to build up a lead over Huggler’s BMW until the safety car was called again on lap ten when Julia Trampert spun her Liqui Moly Team Engstler Ford Fiesta around. Although she managed to avoid the barriers, she was shortly collected by Guido Thierfelder’s Peugeot, which saw her Ford sustain heavy rear-end damage and Thierfelder’s car also out with severe front-end damage to his 207.
Due to the amount of debris left on the track by the collision, the race was eventually red flagged which gave Weimann his second win of the season.
With Leidinger not scoring, Weimann extends his points lead to 12 points, whilst Glatzel’s lead in the Divison 2 class is now reduced to just two points ahead of Griessner.
The next round of the series takes place at the Nürburgring on August 4th.
