Jamie Whincup tops incident hit third Bathurst practice

Jamie Whincup topped the time sheets in the third practice session, a session hit with a lot of incidents. A total of three red flags periods interrupted the session with the first stop caused by a major off by Erebus Mercedes driver Tim Slade.

Slade’s time mate Andrew Thompson had crashed the car in a spectacular way in the second practice session and Slade went off just a few laps in to the third session, with a lot of damage to the car as result.

Alex Davison brought out the red flags not long after due to an off-track excursion while Todd Kelly and Jason Bright caused the third and final red flag session, with Bright suffering from mechanical problems at the end of the long Conrod Straight.

Mark Winterbottom claimed the second fastest time of the session for Pepsi Max Crew FPR ahead of Ford colleagues David Reynolds and Will Davison, making it three Fords in the top four.

Shane Van Gisbergen was fifth fastest ahead of Jason Bright and top Mercedes driver Lee Holdsworth in seventh position.
