First Bathurst 1000 pole position for Jamie Whincup

Jamie Whincup confirmed yesterday’s pace in qualifying in today’s Top 10 Shootout by claiming his first ever Bathurst 1000 pole position. The Triple Eight ace was the sole driver to get below 2:08 and beat main rival, the Ford Performance Racing Falcon of Mark Winterbottom by two tenths of a second.

Jason Bright will line up in third position in his Brad Jones Racing Holden after a lap time that was four tenths from Whincup’s.

Tekno Autosport’s Shane Van Gisbergen and Holden Racing Team’s James Courtney were the final drivers in to the top five, both within a second from the pole position time.

Craig Lowndes was sixth fastest in the sister Triple Eight Holden, ahead of Will Davison’s FPR Falcon and Scott McLaughlin’s GRM Holden.

Rod Nash Racing’s David Reynolds and Garry Rogers Motorsport’s Alexandre Prémat rounded out the top ten.
