Timo Glock victory hampered by understeer

Ex-Formula 1 driver, Timo Glock, revealed his BMW M3 was hampered by understeer towards the end of the Hockenheim season finale, despite still taking his first DTM victory.

Glock eventually won by almost three seconds from Mercedes’ Roberto Merhi, but told TouringCarTimes his car was understeering as a result of low tyre pressure which stemmed from his long opening 30-lap stint.

Glock also believes the decision to pit a lap earlier than Merhi was pivotal in netting his maiden DTM victory.

“I was actually suffering at the end with understeer,” said Glock after the race. “The front left tyre was a bit down, but in general, to pit when we did was the right call.”

The MTEK BMW driver added he was unsure about the competitiveness of his car going into the race, despite qualifying strongly in fourth.

“This morning I really had no idea where we would be, so I just focused on keeping the car on the track in these conditions and not driving too hard with the tyres.

“There was no key point or whatever in the race for me; the car was just very quick and well balanced throughout, so I was able to push a lot.”
