First pole for Chevrolet in the CTCC finale at Shanghai

Ziang Zhi Qiang of the privateer G Racing team claimed pole position for the season finale of the China Touring Car Championship at Shanghai, outqualifying the two works Volkswagens of Zhang Zhen Dong and Martin Ma Qing Hua.

Kia Racing’s Gua Hua San set the first target time of 2:01.685, but that was soon broken by the Ford Focus of Martin Xie, who became the first driver to break the two minute barrier in the qualifying session, followed by the Volkswagen of Guo Hua Yan and the Kia K2 of Huang Chu Han.

Ziang Zhi Qiang then followed with his best time of 1:59.670 late in the session to grab pole position in his Chevrolet Cruze, with the two Volkswagen Polos of Zheng Zhen Dong and Martin Ma jumping up to second and third positions.

Martie Xie wound up as the best placed of the Chang’an Ford FRD drivers in fourth, while his championship battling duo team-mates Jiang Tengyi and Andy Yan qualified in ninth and 11th positions.

The CTCC Super Production race takes place at 13:00 CST on Sunday.
