Mike Conway leads VW Scirocco Cup test in Macau

IndyCar driver Mike Conway was fastest of all in a shortened test session at the Macau circuit for the Volkswagen Scirocco R Cup Masters race. The Briton was half a second clear of Nicola Larini and Duncan Huisman.

Conway, Alain Menu and Nicola Larini traded fastest times throughout the 40 minute session at the Macau circuit. The session was mostly incident free up until the final five minutes, with first Riki Ohkubo, who finished second in the 1971 Macau Grand Prix, going off at Lisboa, before Naoki Nagasaka’s Scirocco was spun around and damaged with one minute to go.

The session was red flagged and not restarted.

Conway’s time of 2:48.692 saw him fastest ahead of former WTCC driver Nicola Larini with Duncan Huisman, a four-time winner at Macau, third.

Steve Soper was fourth fastest ahead of Alain Menu, with David Brabham, Emanuele Pirro and Tim Harvey completing the top eight.

Former Formula One driver Stefan Johansson was ninth fastest, just over two seconds down on Conway’s time, with Martin Donnelly tenth.

Qualifying for the VW Scirocco R Cup Masters Challenge takes place at 13:05 CST on Friday.
