All 32 racing licences for the 2014 BTCC season have been allocated

The pre-registration process for the 2014 British Touring Car Championship season has now been completed, with all the positions on the grid now provisionally filled with all of the Championship’s new TOCA BTCC Licences (TBLs) allocated.

At the start of the 2013 season, a provisional entry list of 32 cars was also published, but a number of teams were unable to fulfil their commitment, either joining the Championship late or not at all. In order to ensure that doesn’t happen again, BTCC organisers TOCA have inplemented a racing licence system called the TBL, similar to the V8 Supercar Championships Racing Entitlement Contract (REC) system for 2014.

Teams which already competed in the 2013 season with an NGTC car would automatically qualify for a TBL, and teams which fielded two cars would also be able to request an additional licence.

Existing teams with NGTC cars would receive priority next, followed finally by any new entries.

TOCA have confirmed however that the licence allocation was used up before any new teams could be considered. However, licences can be leased or gifted, which has seen new teams granted licences such as that of United Autosports, which would be able to compete with the licence earned by the Dynojet Racing team.

TOCA have also confirmed that there is a reserve list of three cars which didn’t meet the BTCC’s entry requirements at this stage, but will pick up a TBL if one of the teams which already has an allocation changes its plans to enter before the start of the season.

The list of licences granted has not been published, though teams are able to make their announcements at their discretion. The official entry list for the 2014 BTCC season will be published, as always, at the Championship’s media day which takes place on March 18th at Donington Park.
