Provisional entry list for 2014 WTCC season

The entry list with all confirmations so far for the FIA World Touring Championship season has been revealed, with the deadline for entries closing last Friday, with 19 full season entries as the Championship introduces all-new regulations for 2014.

The new generation of Super 2000 cars, which compete in what will be called the TC1 class, will have 16 full season entries, with three cars from Citroën, four from Honda, three from Lada and six from Chevrolet, the latter run independently and built by RML.

A fourth Citroën C-Elysée will run at Moscow, Spa-Francorchamps, Shanghai, Macau and one other round for Ma Qing Hua.

Onyx Race Engineering, a new team run by former Arena Motorsport team principal Mike Earle, announced a five-year programme at the beginning of January which has been in development since mid-2013, but it’s understood the team’s cars will not be ready to take part until the latter half of the season at best.

The TC2 class, where the Yokohama Trophy will be fought, has just three entries confirmed for the full year, with Campos Racing fielding a SEAT León WTCC for John Filippi, and Liqui Moly Team Engstler fielding a pair of cars for Franz Engstler, the oldest driver in the field at 52, and another driver to be confirmed shortly.

19 cars is a slight drop from the 23 that entered the 2013 season, but is more than the aspirational target of former WTCC General Manager Marcello Lotti, whose target was to have 16 new cars on the grid in the first year for the new regulations.
