Audi hit hard by new Balance Of Performance

The new Balance Of Performance system comes into play at the second round of the EUROV8 SERIES at Vallelunga, Italy.

The new system means that, despite taking a clean sweep of wins with Eddie Cheever’s Mercedes C63 AMG Coupé, the German cars will receive no penalties ahead of the race.

The changes are actually based on last season’s performances seen from the different models at Vallelunga, due to the nature of the cars which have definite weaknesses and strengths. The four-wheel driven Audi RS 5 was competitive – although not dominant – at Vallelunga last year, and is therefore hit with the maximum performance penalties.

The weight of the Audi Sport Italia cars has been increased from 1,500kg to 1,520kg, the ride height raised to 9 centimeters compared to the previous 7.5 and the air restrictor is brought down to 79 millimeters from 85.

Both Chevrolet models – the old Lumina and the newer Camaro – will benefit from a weight reduction, while the Camaro is also allowed to run at a ride height 10 millimeters lower than before.

Despite taking pole position last year, a 1-2 in Race 1 and a podium with Giovanni Berton in Race 2, the BMW M3 E92 will not be hit by any performance balancing measures.
