Fredrik Ekblom heads Volvo 1-2 in Knutstorp test day one

Fredrik Ekblom headed Volvo Polestar Racing team mate Thed Björk in the first of three STCC test days at Knutstorp in the south of Sweden. The Volvo driver lapped the circuit in 57.147 and was a mere 0.030 seconds faster than reigning champion Björk.

Philip Forsman was fastest of the BMW drivers for WestCoast Racing with the third best time, just under nine tenths of a second from Ekblom’s time.

Forsman was shadowed by team mate Erik Jonsson in fourth position, albeit a further 0.492 seconds adrift.

The new Kias of Brovallen Design claimed positions five and six, with Mattias Lindberg ahead of team mate Andreas Wernersson, both about 1.5 seconds from the best time of the session.

Female Saab driver Emma Kimiläinen was seventh fastest in her first ever STCC test for PWR Racing, just over 1.6 seconds from the top.

Prince Carl Philip Bernadotte was eighth fastest ahead of Team Tidö drivers Richard Göransson, who only completed a few shakedown laps, and Roger Samuelsson.

Ten cars took part in the test session today, with more drivers, Fredrik Larsson and Mattias Andersson, expected to join day two tomorrow. Several cars ran different tyres during the session, some on the old Hankook tyres and some on the new Yokohama tyres.
