CTCC Shanghai bound for Round 3 this weekend

The third round of the 2014 China Touring Car Championship will be held this weekend at the Shanghai International Circuit, where Ford and Volkswagen will continue their battle after taking a win apiece in the first two races.

Shanghai VW 333 Racing Team’s Jiang Tengyi took victory at the opening round of the season at Guangdong, perhaps by surprise after the Changan Ford FRD Team had locked out the top four positions in qualifying, while Ford’s Martin Xie won for Ford from pole at the Zhuhai International Circuit two weeks’ ago in the rain-shortened race.

The Changan Ford FRD Team will have a tough weekend at Shanghai, with both Xie and driver Darryl O’Young having to carry an extra 70kg ballast, while Rainey He and Andy Yan will carry 65kg ballast in their Ford Focuses.

Jiang Tengyi will be the only one of the Shanghai VW 333 Racing team carrying the ballast, and just 10kg at that, which will give them a good chance to get closer to the Fords in qualifying this weekend.

Team Work Motorsport, which finished eighth and ninth with their Citroën C-Elysées during the last round, and missed the first weekend due to technical issues, are set to have a challenge in the independent classification from G-Racing. The returning privateer team will prepare a pair of Chevrolet Cruze 1.6 turbos for Kenneth Look and Jason Zhang Zhi Qiang.

The qualifying will be held at 15:10 (local time) on 24th May.
