Christian Vietoris: “That race was probably the best I’ve driven”

Mercedes DTM driver Christian Vietoris believes his drive from 22nd to 7th in the fifth round of the 2014 DTM season in Moscow was “the best” of his career.

Despite both Mercedes and Vietoris undergoing a tough start to the 2014 DTM season, the young German managed to win the second race of the year at Oschersleben in wet conditions.

He was also set for a podium two-weeks ago at the Norisring behind eventual winner, Mercedes DTM team-mate Robert Wickens. However, an incorrectly fitted wheel stopped Vietoris from finishing in the top-three.

Vietoris again impressed at the mid-point of the 2014 DTM career after finished 7th, the best of the Mercedes drivers.

“That race was probably the best I’ve driven in my whole career,” said Vietoris after the race. “We find ourselves in a tricky situation at the moment, which makes it all the more important to get the absolute maximum out of the car.

“We managed to do that today, so thanks to the great job done by my team.

“We’re all pulling together, and I’m really proud to be a member of this crew.”

Vietoris’ HWA Mercedes team-mate Pascal Wehrlein made it two Mercedes in the top-10 by finishing eighth.
