Charlie Geipel returns and takes two wins in Hockenheim

24-year-old Charlie Geipel made his ADAC Procar Series return at Hockenheim and took a pair of victories in the Yaco Racing Toyota Auris S2000, dominating in the Division 1 class, while Andreas Rambow took a pair of victories for ETH Tuning in Division 2.

Geipel took pole position for each race in the two separate qualifying sessions, outqualifying Reinhard Nehls MINI John Cooper Works by almost two seconds for the first race and was just over 1.1 seconds faster than the MINI of Joachim Schirra for race two.

Geipel was unchallenged in the first race, crossing the finish line ahead of Nehls over 30 seconds clear, while Nehls was his closest competitor again in race two, this time 32 seconds adrift at the chequered flag.

The wins were a triumphant return for Geipel, though Geipel was the only Super 2000 specification car entered for the race, with Division 1 filled with newer but relatively slower Divison 1 specification cars.

In Division 2, Alexander Rambow took a pair of victories in the ETH Tuning Peugeot 207 Sport, finishing ahead of Ralf Glatzel’s Glatzel Racing Ford Fiesta in race one and team-mate Andreas Rinke’s Citroën Saxo in race two.

Thomas Tekaat won the first race in the MINI Challenge Division 3 class, with Steve Kirch victorious in race two, just under a second ahead of Tekaat.

Wolf Racing’s Heiko Hammel still leads the Division 1 standings despite finishing two laps down in race one and not starting race two. Hammel is on 84 points, nine points ahead of Richard Nehls.

Rambow leads the Division 2 standings with a comfortable 37 point lead over team-mate Andreas Rinke, while Thomas Tekaat and Steve Kirch are embroiled in a close battle for the honours in Division 3, with Tekaat just four points ahead of Kirch.

The next, and penultimate round, of the 2014 ADAC Procar Series takes place at the Nürburgring on 30th-31st August.
