Scott Pye scores DJR’s best result of the year in Queensland

Scott Pye scored the best result of the season for the Dick Johnson Racing team at the Ipswich 400, finishing fourth in the 200km Sunday race, passing Triple Eight’s Jamie Whincup in the closing stages, and benefitted from a mistake from Nissan’s James Moffat to move up a spot on the final lap.

Pye had moved up from 12th on the grid, and with a late second pit stop emerged in sight of the the battling pack of Triple Eight Holdens and Ford Performance Racing Falcons, soon after passing the Walkinshaw Racing Holden of Nick Percat.

“The car was a jet today. We qualified better, but probably should have been in the top ten, but from the word go we knew we had a great car,” said Pye. “To be fourth at the end of the race is a fantastic result. I think we were one of the quickest cars over the full distance today.

“The boys did a great job on the strategy and the pit stops. Because we had such good pace on the tyres we could stay out longer and shorten the fuel window and it really worked. I wish I was spraying champagne but that is close enough for today.”
