Augusto Farfus and Martin Tomczyk penalised for blocking other drivers

BMW drivers Augusto Farfus and Martin Tomczyk have been handed penalties after the stewards considered they impeded other drivers at the pit lane exit during today’s Q2, second part of the qualifying session.

They both received a 5-position drop for tomorrow’s grid. In Tomczyk’s case, it makes little difference to his starting position, as the BMW Team Schnitzer driver qualified 21st, on the penultimate row of the grid. Farfus, who had qualified in 15th position, will start from 20th spot.

Poleman Pascal Wehrlein was also investigated for overtaking another driver in the “work lane” of the pit lane, which is considered a dangerous maneuver, but the Mercedes AMG driver got off with only a reprimand, being able to keep the pole position for the race.

Audi Team Phoenix’s Miguel Molina and Mercedes’ Paul Di Resta, who qualified sixth and 22nd respectively, were investigated for not slowing down under yellow flags, but received no penalty.
