Drivers make their tyre choices for the Lausitzring race

The DTM race at Lausitzring is programmed to 52 laps, with the obligatory pit stop window set between laps 17 and 35 (both inclusive), and the regulations state that the softer, faster “option” tyre can only be used for a maximum of 25 laps.

As part of the requirements in the Regulations, each driver has nominated with which tyre they will start the race, having to use each compound at least once.

Six drivers have chosen to start the race with the “prime”, harder, compound: BMW’s Joey Hand, Antonio Felix Da Costa and Maxime Marting, starting the race from the last, eighteenth and fifteenth positions respectively; Audi’s Adrien Tambay and Nico Müller, 17th and 19th on the grid; and Mercedes’ Vitaly Petrov, who starts 14th.

The rest of the field will start the race on the option tyre, having to switch compounds during the obligatory pit stop window.

Should the race be declared “wet” before the start, this tyre choice would no longer be binding.
