Fredrik Larsson: ”I hope Thed Björk blows his engine”

Fredrik Larsson had a big blow to his title hopes after qualifying in the season finale at Mantorp Park today after only managing sixth fastest time overall. But the BMW driver is nonetheless bullish ahead of the last two STCC races of 2014 tomorrow.

”I hope he blows his engine in the first heat and the gearbox in the second,” said Larsson with a laugh.

Larsson is 43 points behind Björk after qualifying with 50 points left to fight for in the two races, meaning that the BMW has got to more or less win both races with Björk retiring from both in order to take the title.

”I start third in the first race (reversed grid), which is perfect, and sixth in the second. That can quickly change to me being in the top three,” said Larsson.

Björk was second fastest in the first qualifying session, meaning ninth position on the grid for the first race due to the reversed grid order, and claimed pole position for the second race.

”I have a really good feeling that started after the summer break and has continued ever since. But anything can happen in the season finale, this is STCC we are talking about after all. But it will take a lot of things to happen for me to lose the title. I don’t need to take any risks and if you have the pace, you can control the situation in another way,” said Björk.

The penultimate STCC race of 2014 starts 12:35 CET tomorrow.
