Pepe Oriola confirms entry at Macau season finale

Pepe Oriola will make a one-off return to the grid of the FIA World Touring Car Championship at the season finale at Macau, driving for Campos Racing in one of the team’s SEAT León 1.6Ts in the TC2T class.

The car is the same car Oriola drove up until the mid-way point of last season, when he switched to the Chevrolet Cruze 1.6T.

This season, the 20-year-old Spaniard has sat out of racing, after a plan to enter the WTCC fell apart when Onyx Race Engineering’s planned Ford Fiesta didn’t receive homologation support from Ford.

Oriola had previously intended to enter the final three events of this season, but the plan now is just to compete in Macau, while he focuses on a return to racing in 2015 in the new TC3 International Series.

“I’m excited to come back to racing. Macau is always an interesting track and thanks to my sponsor Cali Group Macau I will go for it,” said Oriola. “It would be nice to close my career in the WTCC with a podium in the TC2.

“I’ve learned a lot in the WTCC and I have trained as a driver, but it’s important to think in my career and in my future. I have meet some contacts with teams for competing the TC3 International Series next year, a competition that will be the future of touring cars with reasonable costs and a spectacular calendar with F1. I hope to be in this championship in 2015 but now I can’t confirm anything,” he added.
