Colin Turkington: “I’m exactly where I want to be”

A happy Colin Turkington said he finds himself closer to the front than he perhaps expected for the first of today’s three races at Silverstone.

Championship leader Turkington could wrap up the title today if he extends his lead by 13 points over Jason Plato. And he says analysing how the race pans out will dictate his approach to racing the Triple Eight MGs.

Plato has already spelled out his approach, saying he has nothing to lose, and will be going for race wins.

Speaking to TouringCarTimes, Turkington said: “Probably to play it safe is the thing to do. I said I wanted to be racing against my direct competition, which I will be.

“We will see how the pace is over the race, but I’m exactly where I want to be.

“Maybe we didn’t expect to be on the front row here, and as close to Jason. We’ve given ourselves a good chance, and I can control things a bit better starting from the front.

“Naturally, if you’ve got the pace, you want to win. I’ll keep in touch with the guys in the pits and maybe take their advice at some stage.”
